The Reykjavík Special — a day with a local Icelander
This is your chance to meet the Icelanders. Discover our world outside the tourist crowd. Become one of us for a day. Reykjavík is my home city where I was born. We make a tour around the city, but there are five more towns around Reykjavík and we visit some of them too. Visiting an Icelandic home is probably not something you do every day — so at the end of the tour, that’s maybe your only chance.
The day
- 01
Pick-up, then a city tour of Reykjavík and all five neighbouring towns — including the suburbs where most people actually live.
- 02
Lunch in the eastern part of the city where the locals eat: a three-course buffet of typical Icelandic home food, plus vegan, and you can eat as much as you like.
- 03
Árbæjarsafn, the open-air museum of houses from the late 19th century saved from demolition in the centre of Reykjavík.
- 04
Árbæjarlaug, the local swimming pool with a view down Elliðaárdalur. We go in it — and underneath it, to see how it works. A site most visitors never see.
- 05
Finally I invite you to my home and answer all your questions about life in Iceland.
