The South Coast Private Tour

The south coast of Iceland with its black beaches, waterfalls and glaciers is really something to see.

The south coast of Iceland is shaped by the violent interaction between ice and fire. The black sand was brought down from the mountains during catastrophic floods of melted water from volcanic eruptions under the glaciers. Eyjafjallajökull which erupted in 2010 is probably the most famous one but there are others more powerful to see. I think by understanding the Icelandic geology you will more enjoy the trip through this fantastic landscape and I will do my best to explain it.

Many of Iceland’s most beautiful waterfalls will be on our way with water falling from ancient sea cliffs from the time sea level was several meters higher than it is today. Here the characters of my favorite Icelandic saga from the 13th century, the Njáls saga, will come alive. We will visit the outlet glacier on our way the way and in summertime look for pay the puffins. I’m driving my own bus so I’m flexible and we can do whatever we like as long as it is inside the basic frame of the tour.
